WOW I’M SO TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING THAT ELEMENTARY IS WRONG BECAUSE WATSON IS NOT AN ASIAN-AMERICAN WOMAN IN THE CANON BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT? I COULD USE THE SAME ARGUMENTS THAT OTHERS HAVE MADE AND TELL YOU WHAT WATSON HAS BEEN OVER THE YEARS AND I’VE USED THAT ARGUMENT BEFORE but the thing is I genuinely believe that this is Elementary thinking wow look at this modern day setting of ours what can we do with it and it’s them taking advantage of what that means because sure you could cast a non-white woman to play Watson in a Holmes adaptation set in the original timeline but then you’d have all those people snit picking this like the ones who go all “whaaaat Lancelot wasn’t black” because haha fictional characters u so silly and sure they’re getting all snitty over that even with the timeline but then they’d comment on the ~historical inaccuracy~ of such a thing because haha fiction u so silly but Elementary is like look at us we can do what we want with our adaptation because anything goes! we are in control of what we do with our adaptation and you can damn well believe we’re going to do whatever we want and I appreciate any adaptation that sticks its toes out of line and makes itself stand out against other adaptations like when the minds behind Russian Holmes decided to cast Vitaly Solomin as Watson and aka made the most adorable cutie Watson Ever but I’m losing my point here but the bottom line is that I like my Watsons long suffering with a side of badassery and Elementary is like giving this to me upon a silver platter and a kiss on my cheek and wow Elementary I think people are going to start having the wrong impression about our relationship.

Still my definitive Sherlock, even tho I love Russian Holmes and Elementary Holmes A LOT. I guess I love them all for different reasons - my limited exposure to the various Holmeses all appeal to me in one way or another. But now that I’ve started reading Doyle’s books, Brett seems to most accurately capture the character Doyle is describing.
(of course this is also a subjective thing and is probably influenced by the fact that Granada Holmes was my introduction to the character. anyways)
