I too know a bit of Russian so I will definitely be watching it online.

The new Russian Sherlock Holmes series is coming out on Monday! Starring Igor Petrenko as Holmes and the late Andrey Panin as Watson. The series promises eight new stories as well as dabblings with Moriarty (Alexei Gorbunov) and Irene Adler (Lyanka Gryu), the latter who will serve as a romantic interest for Holmes. In this version Holmes is twenty-seven and Watson fifteen years his senior. The main plot thread is that Watson has embellished the original stories, letting the production team recreate them from scratch and essentially become new.

The story begins with the acquaintance: Dr. Watson, in search for a room in London, rents an apartment at Mrs Hudson’s. Although he is totally fine with the accommodation, his neighbor leaves much to be desired – eccentric young man without any clear occupation makes Dr. Watson suspect he is a trespasser and a real criminal.

Soon Dr. Watson’s mistrust turns just the opposite when he discovers truly calling of his strange stable companion – private investigation. Mr. Sherlock Holmes is a serious threat for London underworld. Dr. Watson shortly gets involved into his new friend’s life full of exciting and dangerous adventures and becomes his loyal workmate. [x]

#can i mention how cool it is to have a variation of sherlock holmes where he says stuff like this #because it’s important #and this episode is my favourite so far because it’s surprisingly accurate #and it was just great to hear him say this #because sherlock holmes is of course intelligent and a modern sherlock would know this #and even though this holmes does have that social crass and indelicacy he’s softer in some ways to the others #which is what makes him different and a new take and interesting to watch #he’s a rare fictional example of a character who is pragmatic and driven and a bit socially blunt but also has a firm moral intelligence too #just because a character can be blunt and rude and not understand that they’ve just insulted someone doesn’t have to mean #that they don’t understand right from wrong  (via teacupsandcyanide)

I always reference this scene when talking about Jonny as Holmes because this is what makes him the most Holmesian Holmes since the passing of the great Jeremy Brett.

Sherlock Holmes cares about people, he cares about justice, he cares about not what is legally right but what is morally right and this scene reminds me so much of Holmes’ concern for Violet Hunter in The Copper Beeches or Violet Smith in The Solitary Cyclist or Helen Stoner in The Speckled Band all women in close proximity to abusers/potential abusers and he’s so concerned for them.

That’s Sherlock Holmes, a man concerned with justice and the protection of victims. I love Jonny’s Holmes with a passion because this is my childhood hero returned.

Okay, by just looking at the artwork I deduce that all Holmes and Watson are doing 24/7 is basically sitting around in chairs while judging everything (unless they get up to judge more ppl).

"Speaking of my old friend and biographer, I would take this opportunity to remark that if I burden myself with a companion in my various little inquiries it is not done out of sentiment or caprice, but it is that Watson has some remarkable characteristics of his own to which in his modesty he has given small attention amid his exaggerated estimates of my own performances. A confederate who foresees your conclusions and course of action is always dangerous, but one to whom each development comes as a perpetual surprise, and to whom the future is always a closed book, is indeed an ideal helpmate."

WOW I’M SO TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING THAT ELEMENTARY IS WRONG BECAUSE WATSON IS NOT AN ASIAN-AMERICAN WOMAN IN THE CANON BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT? I COULD USE THE SAME ARGUMENTS THAT OTHERS HAVE MADE AND TELL YOU WHAT WATSON HAS BEEN OVER THE YEARS AND I’VE USED THAT ARGUMENT BEFORE but the thing is I genuinely believe that this is Elementary thinking wow look at this modern day setting of ours what can we do with it and it’s them taking advantage of what that means because sure you could cast a non-white woman to play Watson in a Holmes adaptation set in the original timeline but then you’d have all those people snit picking this like the ones who go all “whaaaat Lancelot wasn’t black” because haha fictional characters u so silly and sure they’re getting all snitty over that even with the timeline but then they’d comment on the ~historical inaccuracy~ of such a thing because haha fiction u so silly but Elementary is like look at us we can do what we want with our adaptation because anything goes! we are in control of what we do with our adaptation and you can damn well believe we’re going to do whatever we want and I appreciate any adaptation that sticks its toes out of line and makes itself stand out against other adaptations like when the minds behind Russian Holmes decided to cast Vitaly Solomin as Watson and aka made the most adorable cutie Watson Ever but I’m losing my point here but the bottom line is that I like my Watsons long suffering with a side of badassery and Elementary is like giving this to me upon a silver platter and a kiss on my cheek and wow Elementary I think people are going to start having the wrong impression about our relationship.

Still my definitive Sherlock, even tho I love Russian Holmes and Elementary Holmes A LOT. I guess I love them all for different reasons - my limited exposure to the various Holmeses all appeal to me in one way or another. But now that I’ve started reading Doyle’s books, Brett seems to most accurately capture the character Doyle is describing.

(of course this is also a subjective thing and is probably influenced by the fact that Granada Holmes was my introduction to the character. anyways)

You’re still missed, Jeremy.
